Malta Chamber of Fashion

Dr. Juliana Scerri Ferrante is a woman who believes that Fashion is Culture inspiring her self by Maltese heritage and a wealth of craftsmanship in Italy. Juliana's vision to form a community in Malta and Italy, where fashion and culture could merge and grow developed into this Chamber which ensures that maximum publicity for the young and new Maltese artists is achieved in events, which lead to a career in fashion giving Malta's talented, ambitious and emerging young fashion designers a quantum leap in getting international exposure.

Today the Chamber is well established as a cultural entity and proudly presents an annual and prestigious Fashion show. These events host Internationally acclaimed designers with many renowned Italian houses showing their collections, inspiring up and coming designers from Malta. This is a commitment that the Chamber has made to encourage more talent to come forward, and take the plunge to show their designs.

As a Chamber it has signed protocols with the leading fashion academies in Rome and Florence.  The aim is to send Maltese students and designers to these Italian academies and fashion houses for short courses and work placements to study, enhance and sharpen their talents before returning to Malta or getting offered opportunities to work overseas. The Chamber is also developing the potential of having Italian students doing their internship in Malta.

This year Juliana has handed over her Presidency to Caroline Borg who will carry the baton and continue with the yearly commitment of staging a spectacular fashion event. Caroline shares the same love and passion for Fashion and Beauty as Juliana and is an avid follower of the Arts, Culture and Dance.  She is well known for her organizational and PR skills.
 Renato Balestra

Born in Trieste, Renato Balestra comes from a family of architects and engineers. It was not until the last year of his engineering studies, however, that he became involved in fashion, creating a design in response to a bet made among friends.

It is fair to say that fashion chose Renato Balestra, rather than Renato Balestra chose fashion. The move from Milan to Rome was rapid. He started to collaborate with the most important fashion houses in Rome of the time such as the Sorelle Fontana and Shuberth. He enjoyed working for the movie industry.  In not time Renato Balestra opened his first Roman Atelier in Via Gregoriana.  However, a few years later, Via Sistina, became the symbol of Maison Balestra where the designer began his rise to international fame and where he welcomed and created gowns for the most elegant women in the world.

Throughout his career, Renato Balestra has been invited to present his Collections all over the World, and acclaimed with huge international success.  Mr Balestra has been awarded International and National prestigious prizes in recognition of his talent. He prides himself for having designed for famous clients and worldwide celebrities including First Ladies, Princesses and actresses. Renato Balestra has designed the costumes for various theatre operas as well as airline uniforms.

Maison Balestra is one of the few Italian firms that is still owned by the family combined with a strongly managerial Company structure. Theirs is a tradition that is constantly evolving.

The Malta Chamber of Fashion is honored to have made this possible with the commitment and invaluable support from it's sponsors and patrons namely The Phoenicia, Porsche, Nexos, SU29, Air Malta, MTA, Star Casinos, Environ, Dean Gera, MAC, Victor Azzopardi Jewelers, Niumee, Retail International, Myoka, Costa Cafe, Elegance Chauffeur Service, Bernard Polidano, Pearl Beach, Charles Grech & CO, Tower Supermarkets, Professional Security Service, Island Caterers, Magnum, Penny Apap Brown, Charles & Ron, Gruppo Inventa, Corpo Diplomatico, GOES, Skyworth, KKERLY, Parthenope, Frank Salt and Muran.
